They’ve become a much-loved, must-see part of a day out in Rundle Mall and they’re about to reach a special milestone. Friday 3 July, marks 21 years since the iconic bronze pigs Horatio, Oliver, Truffles and Augusta were unveiled in Rundle Mall!
We're celebrating this special occasion with other much-loved South Australian icons including Balfours, Robern Menz, Charlesworth Nuts, Melba’s Chocolates, Kytons Bakery, Haigh’s Chocolates and Jonny’s Popcorn, who will be giving away free party treats between 12 pm and 3 pm on Friday 3 July.
We're not one to brag, but this is a super important occasion, so coming to wish the pigs a happy birthday will be the Balfour's Green Frog mascot as well as Robern Menz’s Mr. FruChoc, Kytons Bakery’s Larry the Lamington and Charlesworth Nuts’ Charley the Peanut.
Did you know?
These fun-loving pigs were created by South African-born artist Marguerite Derricourt, the winner of a national competition instigated by the City of Adelaide to find a piece of public art to mark the final stages of a Rundle Mall upgrade. They're officially known as ‘A Day Out’ and they've spent the last 21 years enjoying themselves in the Mall, greeting passers-by, sniffing around and digging through the bin for yummy scraps.
