In five years’ time I’ll be… exactly where I need to be, and hopefully saying ‘sorry’ a lot less.
Meet the Creative Behind the Shoot
We asked Chris Kontos, Creative Director of SA Style five questions about inspo, shoots & fashion.
What inspired your creative direction for this shoot?
The direction for this shoot came from iconic New York socialites, mother and daughter both named Edith Beale, who lived in poverty in their old mansion, Grey Gardens. A documentary depicts the everyday lives of two reclusive, formerly upper class women who still live in the fantasy world. The daughter has forever been the reference point for fashion trends with layering clothing, head scarfs and iconic accessories. Mavournee is an actor that I felt would bring this character to life and she certainly delivered. Plus, we shot at the iconic government house - I mean, it was perfect!
What’s your favourite part of being part of a shoot? Any advice to have a successful shoot?
My favourite part is seeing it come to life on the screen. The camera never lies so watching the shots file through and your vision coming to life still after 20 years gives me a thrill. The first shot is always the hardest as it set the tone for the shoot, so my tip is to always shoot the winning outfit first.
Whether it's for a photoshoot or street-style, if you could give any tip for styling, what would it be?
Spend money on great accessories, there is nothing worse than cheap accessories. Don’t get me wrong, I love a bargain but I've lived my life buying high street clothing and accompanying it with a great pair of shoes, designer sunnies and bag.
What’s your favourite winter trend?
A statement coat is always a great winter trend, over-sized tailoring is very much in at the moment, so is anything bright or luxe fabrication. H&M always have amazing coats to select from as they have European design at an affordable price.
What’s your must-have winter staple?
A turtle neck jumper, or skivvy as I like to call them, nothing better than wearing something comfortable whilst still looking effortless and fashionable.
