Lunar New Year celebrations have become an increasingly popular event for both those who traditionally celebrate it and onlookers who are enthralled by the electric atmosphere, with hundreds of visitors assembling in Rundle Mall for the annual performances.
With the vibrant music, thrilling dances, chances to score a lucky red envelope and sea of swaying lanterns illuminating the Gawler Place Canopy, Lunar New Year continues to be an exciting and beloved event on the Rundle Mall calendar.
Lion Dances
Resplendent in crimson and gold, traditional lion dancers and musicians thrilled onlookers with spectacular feats of acrobatic prowess as they wove their way down the Mall, interacting with crowds in their search for lucky lettuce. Creating an inclusive and vibrant atmosphere as the dancers interacted with delighted onlookers to the beat of traditional instruments, the dancers urged crowds to follow them as they ducked in and out of stores, including Sephora, Haigh's Chocolates, Koko Black, Sushi Hub, Pandora and Jurlique.
God of Fortune
Accompanying the performances, the playful 'God of Fortune' distributed traditional lucky red envelopes containing gold chocolate coins. To support retail visitation, selected envelopes contained Rundle Mall shopping vouchers or Rundle Place food court vouchers, creating a surprise-and-delight experience for those fortunate enough to receive a winning envelope.
