It’s Festival Time

The Plastic Bag Store

Festival season is fast approaching, and this year Adelaide Festival are bringing The Plastic Bag Store to Rundle Mall.

Created by artist Robin Frohardt, The Plastic Bag Store is a supermarket made entirely from hundreds of upcycled plastic bags and plastic. The supermarket showcases everyday products from fruit and vegetables to tubs of ice cream and cleaning products, which have all been handmade from used plastic.

This jaw-dropping supermarket is not only a first for South Australia, but a first for Australia! It was originally designed for Manhattan’s Time Square where it premiered in October and Rundle Mall is its first-ever international destination.

The free event will be open to the public every afternoon from Tuesday 23 February – Sunday 14 March, on level 1 of Rundle Place.

On Tuesday 16 February, Adelaide Festival will reveal a merchandised window cube, designed by artist Robin Frohardt, which will be positioned on the Mall opposite Rundle Place to drive awareness pre-event and during to direct visitors to the exhibition. The opposite side of the window cube will support the single-use plastic messaging from Green Industries South Australia.
